Relaxing Seattle Day Trips

While the Emerald City is one of the largest metropolitan areas in the United States, it can turn off nature lovers. However, Seattle’s location offers residents a variety of day trips to help them get out of the city and back into nature. Several National Parks and National Forests surround Seattle as well as the Puget Sound, making Seattle a great destination for nature lovers. If you or your loved one is in need of a senior care facility, Seattle might be the destination for you.

Mount Rainier National Park

One of the Nation’s most popular National Parks lies just a few hours outside of Seattle. Mount Rainier National Park is home to 42 locations that are designated on the National Register of Historic Places, making it a great trip for history buffs. Additionally, Mount Rainier National Park contains 25 glaciers and hundreds of lakes and rivers for everyone to enjoy. There are even leisurely hikes that can be planned, which are perfect for seniors.

Whidbey Island

Whidbey Island has been one of Washington State’s best kept secrets for years. The Island lies only 30 miles north of Seattle and hosts numerous festivals throughout the year, including the Oak Harbor Music Festival and Whidbey Island Zucchini Festival. But even when an event isn’t going on there is always something to do on the island.

There are also a number of state, county, and city parks located across Whidbey Island, making it a great destination for nature lovers. Beaches surround the island, and boat docks and marinas allow you and your senior loved ones to take a boat tour around the island area.

Due to the island’s location in the northern part of the Puget Sound, activities like whale watching have become quite popular. Kayaking, clamming, fishing, and crabbing are also prevalent on the island, so if seafood is one of your senior’s favorites, a day trip to Whidbey Island might be the perfect activity.

Snoqualmie Falls

Snoqualmie Falls is one of Washington’s most visited scenic attractions with more than 1.5 million visitors every year. The top of the falls are a short 100-yard walk from the parking lot, making it a great place for you and your loved ones to stretch their legs after the 35-minute drive from Downtown Seattle. The drive is beautiful, however, since you pass Lake Sammamish, Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park, and Tiger Mountain State Forest.
