Why No One Talks about In Home Care in Tacoma

There are a slew of senior housing options available to elders. Each one caters to a specific crowd – as specific kind of elder. For those who forego home maintenance and housekeeping, but have an insatiable thirst for adventure, there’s independent living. For those who need minor care, maybe some help with managing their medications, they may choose the apartment-styled assisted living. And for those that don’t want to maintain their home, but want to live in a home nonetheless, they may opt for adult family homes. But what about in home care in Tacoma? Why doesn’t anyone talk about it?

The short answer is because, people are hardly “in their homes” in Tacoma. They’re exploring the city!

Tacoma is one of those cities you can’t help but fall in love with. Between the scenic mountain ranges, pristine lakes, and wide variety of arts, it’s not hard to see why. The city becomes home: the mood, the environment, and the people. The last thing an elder needs in Tacoma is a reason to stay “at home”.

For starters, there’s the Fort Nisqually Living History Museum. That’s right, “living history”. This is a museum that’s dedicated to giving people the most immersive experience they can imagine. Many people visit this museum for the ambiance alone, but you can also see what Washington was like during the Fur Trade era in the 19th century.

If the living history wasn’t enough, Tacoma is also home to the Washington State History Museum where you can walk (at your own pace) through time. Through the Hall of Washington, you can walk-through huge dioramas and interact with exhibits.

In addition to those two historical museums, there’s modern art museums for those looking for a contemporary look at Tacoma’s culture. At Tacoma Art Museum (TAM), you can witness the Art of the American West and see how our ideas of the American West (and its expansion) have changed and evolved over the years. Of course, you can also witness the awe-inspiring  “stone wave” sculpture by Richard Rhodes. It’s the center-piece of TAM and is made up of 650 stones (imported from China). The idea was to recreate water in “mid-slosh”. It’s a breathtaking display that captures the heart of the Puget Sound area.

Of course, no museum description would be complete without mentioning the world-renowned – you read that right – glass museum. Tacoma is known for its glass art and that’s why there’s an entire section (and an entire museum) dedicated to it.

For something more active, Tacoma is also home to the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. Two wildly popular attractions to the Tacoma area. You can see polar bears, sea otters, and come face-to-face with sharks. For many elders, this is where they take their grandkids or even volunteers. Plus, this is right beside the Point Defiance Park which offers an absolutely breathtaking of Puget Sound.

In addition to all this, there are theaters, parks, trails, hikes, movie theaters, bowling, bars and pubs, seafaring tours, whale watching and more. The reason you don’t hear much about in home care in Tacoma… is because the city is their home and so long as they can explore, they’re all set.
